birding“East-Africa is not only famous for its big wild animals, like lions, elephants and leopards, it is also one of world’s most special bird areas. Different international research institutes have installed many observing fascilities to explore this diverse richness of bird species. Different guides of Karibu Africa Safaris are fascinated by the presence of so many different rare birds and have specialized in ornithology. They yearly follow courses to expand heir knowledge. They also are fond of sharing their knowledge with other guides by organizing joint safaris. One very interesting area is Rift Valley. It runs all the way from North to South Africa. A tremendous cleft with accompanied lakes which is the home of an unprecedented amount of birds from at least 400 different species. Millions of flamingos and also hornbills, weaver-birds, bee-eaters, ice-birds, parrots, eagles and vultures. A must for all bird lovers is the Pel’s fish-owl, the fish-eagle, the kamerhead, the giant heron, the white bellied erako and the secretary bird. With some patience and time birds can be added to your list.

Other famous bird areas are Lake Eyasi, Kakamega Forest, Tsavo and Selous. More then 1200 different species are already countedin these areas and it is very possible to see more then half of this amount in three or four weeks. Because these are specialist safaris, perhaps in combination with regular safaris, there are only few companies who offer these kind of safaris. Karibu Africa Safaris do have this kind of expertise and is kindly prepared to plan your holiday. We gladly receive an extensive list of wishes when you are interested in this kind of holiday to form, together with our guides, a complete programme. Your available time, your flight schedule and budget of course influence this programme. The planning of this trip involves more time then the mentioned 1 week for regular safaris. Although our guides spend a lot of their time in the field, we try to send you a detailed tailor-made programme within two weeks.
