SUSTAINABILITY POLICY

As a travel company with more than 20 years of experience, Karibu Africa Safaris has
always followed a principle of dedication and professionalism in its operations. In an
effort to practice sustainable tourism, the company has formulated a Sustainability
policy that is going to guide all its operations and other tourism stakeholders.
The policy has been divided into 9 themes that cover the company’s operations and
relationships with clients and partners. Each theme presents principles and practical
actions accordingly.

1. Human Resource: Social Policy and Human Rights

Karibu Africa Safaris is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for
its staff. The company shall continue to grant employees freedom of employment and
contract termination with notice of two (2) months and without penalty. The
employment contract offered is to include a job description and labor conditions
according to the national labor law, and mentions a wage rate that is equal or above the
national legal wage. Each employee is granted fixed paid yearly holiday and sick leave.
Karibu Africa Safaris, as a member and through the Workers Compensation Fund, shall
provide medical and liability insurance; and have health and safety practices that
comply with national standards.
As a principle, Karibu Africa Safaris shall take NO part in Child Labour, and ensure NO
discrimination regarding recruitment, conditions of employment, access to training, and
senior positions or promotions on the basis of gender, race, age, disability, ethnicity,
religion/beliefs, or sexual orientation. This is to be accompanied by ensuring all

employees have an equal chance and access to resources and opportunities for personal
development through training/education.
In addition, Karibu Africa Safaris shall continue providing a safe environment for
employees to voice out their complaints and expectations, permit trade union
membership for its employees, and at the same time have clear disciplinary measures
that are effectively communicated with employees.

2. Environmental Responsibility

Karibu Africa Safaris is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for
its staff. The company shall continue to grant employees freedom of employment and

legal wage. Each employee is granted fixed paid yearly holiday and sick leave.
Karibu Africa Safaris shall continue protecting the environment and fostering
community relations by implementing sustainable practices as a company and through
its guests. The company has actively reduced the use of plastic water bottles by
introducing refillable water bottles in its safaris and encourages guests to make use of
them. Through a partnership with a local producer of water filters, Karibu Africa Safaris
implements a project that enables guests (if they wish) to donate ceramic water filters to
drought-prone areas while in Tanzania.
Various waste management measures are carried out by the company, varying from the
printing of brochures on environmentally friendly paper, double-sided printing, to the
use of the website and social media platforms whenever possible. Karibu Africa Safaris
shall continue to favor the purchase of environmentally friendly materials, and
preferring low energy equipment through the use of energy efficient lighting when
possible, and switching off lights and equipment when not in use.
In addition, Karibu Africa Safaris shall continue to regularly carry out maintenance on
the company vehicles to ensure roadworthiness, reduce energy use, and reduce
emissions. All these measures are accompanied by making the head office
environmentally friendly as possible through the use of lead-free water-based paints,
both inside and outside; and complying with the local and national land ownership
laws and regulations.

3. Partner Agency

In its various operations, Karibu Africa Safaris raises awareness among key partners on
sustainable consumptions through promotions of sustainable practices in its businesses.
In addition, Karibu Africa Safaris shall continue to pay attention to the local benefits of
communities when working with various local partners.

4. Transport

As a company that practices sustainable tourism, Karibu Africa Safaris shall continue to
plan its itineraries in a manner that facilitates the provision of affordable, comfortable,
and practical transportation routes while decreasing the average pollution level.
Depending on the wishes of the guest, this is to be done through the integration of more
than one package in a sustainable way that still meets the desires of the guest.

5. Sustainable Accommodations

Karibu Africa Safaris shall continue motivating and encouraging partner
accommodations to follow best practices on responsible tourism. The company shall
continue working with accommodations and restaurants that incorporate elements of
local art and cultural heritage while respecting the intellectual property rights of local
communities.

restaurants that are locally owned and managed, and employ local communities.

making sure its tours safeguard the authenticity of local communities and the natural
environment. This is fulfilled by offering environmentally or culturally sensitive
excursions through advising guests on behavioral standards of destinations and

respecting the local culture, nature, and environment. The excursions are carried out by
skilled and experienced local guides and do not harm human, animals, plants, or
natural resources. Each excursion involves orientation of guests on local culture, code of
conduct, and the local environment and biodiversity so as to minimize negative impact
and maximize enjoyment.
Karibu Africa Safaris shall also continue to promote to guests, excursions, and activities
which directly involve and support local communities and local environment and
biodiversity.

sustainability policy and are compliant. The company shall also continue to offer
training on responsible tourism to its guides, and have them inform guests on the
relevant sustainability matters in the destinations, cultural aspects, and human rights.

8. Destination

Karibu Africa Safaris shall continue to encourage its guests to only leave behind
footprints and enhance sustainable development. The company shall continue to offer
alternative, non-mainstream destinations, and discourage the purchase of souvenirs
that threaten flora and fauna species, or historical and archeological artifacts; except
those permitted by law.
In addition, Karibu Africa Safaris shall continue to support and encourage initiatives
that improve the relationships between accommodations and local procedures. The
company shall also continue to influence and support local governments, together with

other stakeholders, concerning sustainable tourism, use of natural resources, and socio-
cultural issues.

9. Customer Communication and Protection

Karibu Africa Safaris aims to make sure its guests experience Africa in a special way.
The company shall continue to carry out its operations in a professional and dedicated
manner, prior to and after booking, while ensuring customer privacy is not
compromised.
In all activities, product and price information are to be clear, complete, and accurate;

Safaris shall continue to systematically collect information regarding guests’ satisfaction
and take into account the results for service and product improvement. Sustainability
shall continue to be an integral part of the company’s operations while maintaining
customer satisfaction.
In keeping with the good faith of this Sustainability policy, Karibu Africa Safaris has
appointed a Sustainability Coordinator, who is to have an assistant. Both positions have
undergone sustainable tourism training and attained certificates from respectable
organizations that foster sustainability. The mandate of the Sustainability Coordinator
is to prepare a sustainability mission statement that is to be communicated to
customers, partners, and suppliers; and includes employee-related health and safety
aspects.
In addition, the Sustainability Coordinator is to formulate a sustainability action plan
with clear targets, actions, measures, responsibilities, and time planning. Baseline
assessment of the company’s performance on sustainable practices shall be conducted
while ensuring transparency in sustainability by public reporting and communicating.
The Sustainability Coordinator is also to ensure all staff are fully aware of the
company’s Sustainability Policy and are committed to implementing and improving it.

This policy was updated in the month of June, 2019, and it is a public document that
will be reviewed annually.
