Money
Bring US dollars printed after 2009 for tips and extras. Cards are accepted at most lodges and in towns, and ATMs are available in Arusha.
Time and electricity
Tanzania is on East Africa Time (GMT+3). Sockets are the British three-pin type (230V).
Culture
Tanzanians are warm and polite. Greetings matter, so learn “Jambo” (hello) and “Asante” (thank you). Dress modestly in towns, and ask before photographing people.
