Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Home of Mountain Gorillas

The beautiful Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is situated in the south-west of Uganda. Like neighboring Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Mgahinga is most known for its gorilla trekking. It is an alternative to those who perhaps cannot get a permit for Bwindi Impenetrable. The park is home for 380 mountain gorillas, of which one family can be visited. Visitors should note sighting of this family of gorillas is not guaranteed within the park at any given time. They can move into either Rwanda or Congo.

As well as the gorillas, there is also other exciting wildlife and a bit of bird watching is possible as well.

Golden monkeys can also be tracked within the park, and a variety of boreal wildlife including forest hogs, jackals, buffalos, and elephants are occasional sights within the densely forested park. The three volcano peaks south of the park create a beautiful and memorable sight.
